When the world committed to achieving universal and equitable access to water as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the promise to Leave No One Behind was recognised as both an ethical responsibility and a key criteria for success.

The Covid-19 pandemic is exacerbating already existing protection needs and unveiling new ones. In eastern Ukraine, already exhausted by the ongoing conflict, the vulnerabilities are particularly high due to the high proportion of elderly population, damaged infrastructure and deteriorating healthcare and water supply systems. A properly resourced and coordinated response must be provided to address these systemic issues and to prevent them from been impacted beyond repair.

The Southeast Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (SIRP), Myanmar aimed to empower targeted villages in Tanintharyi Region, Mon and Kayin States through a participatory planning process.

In 2015, the number of people displaced reached an all-time high of more than 60 million. In response, NRC directly assisted almost 5.4 million people across 30 country operations– more than in any previous year.

Around the town of Galkaiyo, southern Puntland, there are almost 60,000 displaced people living in very basic and difficult conditions in 21 spontaneous settlements. This project aimed to work with a target group of 2,000 of the most vulnerable households (12,000 people) and support them with temporary shelter and a range of hygiene inputs.

The Southeast Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (SIRP), was implemented in Mon and Kayin States and Tanintharyi Region of Myanmar. Activities were designed to empower communities in 90 villages through a participation planning process, whereby communities define their priority needs.
