How many articles have you seen published about the world’s biggest displacement crisis in Sudan? Or the severe hunger crisis sweeping through the resource-rich Democratic Republic of the Congo? How often do you hear journalists reference the number of people who rely on aid in the Sahel?

When information about these crises doesn’t reach you, it’s easier for global leaders to ignore. And it’s much harder for humanitarian organisations, like the Norwegian Refugee Council, to attract funding to support those in need. As a result, millions of people suffer in silence.

Sudan: Hunger crisis

Advocacy manager Mathilde Vu spoke to CBC, describing the neglected situation in Sudan: “It’s the world’s largest displacement crisis – it is also going to be the world’s largest hunger crisis. Right now, there are people who are eating leaves.”

DR Congo: Deadly attack

NRC, together with other INGOs, issued a statement in reaction to a deadly attack on 3 May, directly hitting displacement sites hosting over 55,000 families around Goma in the North Kivu province.

Burkina Faso: Half a million people cut off from aid

FONGHI and NRC issued a joint press release ahead of the European Humanitarian Forum, raising the alarm on the dire situation faced by half a million people under blockade in Burkina Faso who are not receiving aid due to funding shortages and operational difficulties.

Each year, the Norwegian Refugee Council publish a list of the ten most neglected and forgotten displacement crises in the world.

The purpose is to focus on the plight of people whose suffering rarely makes international headlines, who receive no or inadequate assistance, and who never become the centre of attention for international diplomacy efforts:
